Jogging Outside: Where Every Step Counts (Even the Ones I Trip Over)

by: Emma Sumrell

happy summer, everyone! today, i come to you with a revolutionary concept: jogging outside. throughout this summer i have been teaching my body how to run again in between my pilates & strength training workouts. it has been so beneficial for me and today we are going to explore the benefits & i promise i’ll try to keep my it’S chEaPeRRRR thAN TheRapY comments to myself. (emphasis on TRY)

1.) Vitamin D

turns out the best source of vitamin d isn’t in a supplement you take multiple times a week but actually going outside into the broad daylight. i know this sounds like a daunting task but it really does make you feel so much better. this winter was rough & DARK, so getting outside everyday has been really helpful in putting me in consistent good moods. with that said, jogging outside means soaking up some much needed vitamin d while simultaneously convincing the people in town you’re not just wandering around aimlessly. you’re welcome.

2.)  People Watching

Forget Netflix – the real entertainment is watching people in town navigate their everyday life. from the elderly couple power-walking in matching windbreakers to the jogger who passes you effortlessly, and the locals speeding through cross-walks, people-watching while jogging outside is a sport in itself and quite frankly, keeps me going.

3.) Mental Escape

in today’s world, finding a moment of peace while constantly connected to our phones & real life can be really difficult. jogging outside offers a chance to unplug, clear your mind, and consider life’s mysteries, like why do people still wear fanny packs? this is where one would remind you that jogging is chEaPeRRRR thAN TheRapY but i promised i wouldn’t say anything. and i won’t. BUT ITS TRUE.

in conclusion, the benefits of jogging outside are as plentiful as the excuses to avoid it (looking at you, Love Island binge). so lace up those sneaks, put on your cute new set and get ready to run. and remember: every jog is one step closer to justifying that post workout bottle of wine.

cheers! xoxo
